MRK Management Consultants GmbH has submitted the feasibility study titled “Tourist Cable Car in the Hochtaunuskreis” to its client, the Hochtaunuskreis. As part of the project, a comprehensive feasibility study was conducted to assess the technical feasibility and environmental impact of a cable car line connecting Oberursel to the summit of the Großer Feldberg. The aim of the study was to create an environmentally friendly and attractive transportation link to resolve the existing traffic problems at the summit.
The study included the development of route alternatives, the placement of towers and substations, and calculations of their cable alignments. In addition, environmental assessments were conducted based on this work, and protective measures were proposed. The feasibility study took into account investment, operating, and life-cycle costs, as well as average visitor numbers. It also addressed eligibility for funding, the legal framework, and the protection of local residents.
In summary, two route options were developed that demonstrate high economic viability for the project even at low ticket prices. The planned system is a single-cable circulating ropeway with a cabin capacity of ten people, which allows for the comfortable transport of people with limited mobility, as well as strollers and bicycles.
