MRK Media AG, in collaboration with the Technical University of Dresden (Chair of Information Technology for Transportation Systems), took third place in the SET4FUTURE Award 2025 with the LCX4RAIL project.

The technology relies on leaky waveguide cables laid along the tracks, which for the first time enable a shared infrastructure for multiple applications: seamless broadband wireless coverage, highly reliable vehicle tracking, and radar-like obstacle detection.

Compared to conventional wireless solutions, LCX reduces the need for expensive hardware and base stations, lowers infrastructure and operating costs, and increases system efficiency through software-based multiple-use of signals. As a result, LCX4RAIL offers a future-proof solution for modern rail transportation.
